Letter to warn trader about court action for faulty goods

This advice applies to England

If you bought the goods before 1 October 2015

This letter applies to goods that you bought on or after 1 October 2015.

If you bought the goods before 1 October 2015, contact the Consumer Service for advice on what to include in your letter.

Use this letter template to warn a trader that you're thinking of taking court action to sort out a problem with faulty goods.

It should help the trader understand your point of view and their legal obligation to sort out the problem.

You can send the letter by post or copy the text into an email.

Before you use this template, make sure you read our advice on how to write a letter before action.

Going to court is the last resort and you should always try to find another way of reaching an agreement first.
